Research has already proven Guaranteed Basic Income (GBI) effective in improving individuals’ health, financial, and employment outcomes. In 2024, Compass Family Services and Hamilton Families launched the first pilot specifically for families. A first-of-its-kind initiative measuring the impact of direct cash payments on long-term housing stability.
approach
We were tasked with building support for GBI, explaining the pilot, and creating a space to share family stories and future findings. We kept the site informative and easy to navigate, pairing clear content with illustrations I created highlighting the kinds of expenses a guaranteed basic income can help cover for Bay Area families.

$1,000 a month can sound like a lot, so to show how small necessities add up in a family’s budget, I began to draw them out.

To remind people that this pilot is ultimately about families with children, I combined illustration with POV photographs to show what’s possible.
